As the train approaches, the sound waves that make up the whistle are compressed making the pitch higher than if the train was stationary. Likewise, as the train moves away from you, the sound waves are stretched, lowering the pitch of the whistle. The faster the train moves, the greater the change in the whistle's pitch as it passes your location. Wednesday morning forecast with Meteorologist Keith Monday
Since the beam is nearly blocked by the mountains, the returns are usually assigned a high dBz, see Figure 2 below. The range resolution of the TDWR is finer than what is available in the Weather Surveillance Radar, 1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) or any other FAA radar that has weather channel capability. The TDWR utilizes a range gate resolution of 150 meters (m) for Doppler data. It has a resolution of 150 m for reflectivity data within 135 kilometers (km) and 300 m from beyond 135 km to 460 km. By contrast, the WSR-88D employed by the National Weather Service (NWS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DoD) has a maximum range gate resolution of 250 m for Doppler and 1 km for surveillance data.
Four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers were shot, one of whom died. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were also shot, three of whom died. Wilson described the scene as “gunfire galore,” with officers army-crawling through his backyard, hiding behind trees, and jumping around bushes. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections stated that two of the members of the task force were veterans of their department. They were identified as Sam Poloche and Aledn Elliot. Poloche leaves behind a wife and two children, and Elliot and his wife were parents to one child.

Like the previous time period, this smaller sample size saw about 84% of all tornadoes were either EF0 or EF1. The second most active season came in the spring of 1998, according to Davis. Many of those tornadoes were in the western Piedmont of North Carolina. That day saw the state's final, and most recent, F4 tornado, which occurred in Caldwell County.
That same year is also famous for being one of the most active and strongest hurricane seasons on record. Most of the tornadoes that season were from the remnants of tropical systems, including Bonnie, Charley, Gaston, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. The top four widest tornadoes in North Carolina history occurred during the March 1984 outbreak. On that day, 14 tornadoes were confirmed with two tornadoes being over a mile wide. Nov. 23, 1992, was the third day of a historic multi-state tornado outbreak.

This ability to "see" the wind is what enables the National Weather Service to detect the formation of tornados which, in turn, allows us to issue tornado warnings with more advanced notice. That brings us to Monday when task force officers tried to serve a warrant for Hughes on charges out of Lincoln County. — Several GoFundMe accounts have been started to assist the families of the US Marshals and CMPD Officers who were shot and killed or injured after a suspect opened fire on the officers Monday. A neighbor said dozens of law enforcement officers used his home and backyard during the shootout.
"We also extend our sincere condolences to everyone who was injured in this violent attack." Jennings said the officers who were shot were taken to an area hospital. The Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) is a high quality, dedicated meteorological surveillance radar deployed near many of the larger airports in the U.S. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) installed TDWRs near the largest airports which were vulnerable to wind shear conditions (thunderstorms, frontal passages, etc.). The TCLT TDWR is located 9.25 miles northeast of the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, or 35.34N and 80.89W.
The upgraded signal processor has improved data quality and increased sensitivity on the Charlotte TDWR. The Current Radar map shows areas of current precipitation (rain, mixed, or snow). The map can be animated to show the previous one hour of radar.
